Allies and Droids

“Not on your life. That little droid and I have been through a lot together. "
―Luke Skywalker when asked if he wanted to replace R2-D2

All Allies must come with a Function Aspect that is implied with its description. They also always have a single application of Professional, Resilient, and Sturdy for a Refresh plus two additional Features. Additional Refresh can be spent to add more allies or to improve the current ally by adding Features. Allies can provide Teamwork Bonuses to a character that they are attached to.

TEAMWORK BONUSES:
The following rules come from Ryan Macklin’s Blog

Teamwork bonuses work as normal for Fate Core. Each character gives up their action and provides a +1 per character as long as they have at least a +1 in the particular Approach that is being used.

  • The benefit you can get from teamwork caps at your Approach rating (not including Stunts). After that, you’re not really able to utilize the additional help. So you can get the benefit of four people helping you if you have an Approach at Great +4, just one person if your Approach is Average +1, and can’t really get help if you have Mediocre +0.
  • As a reminder, you can’t help unless your rating in that same Approach is at least Average.

Please note that it may not be feasible for a large group of allies to aid a character in a task. For example only a few allies would be effective fighting in the close quarters of a starship’s cramped corridors. So even if a player had a large group of allies only one or two would be able to provide him with any assistance under those circumstances. Ultimately this is a call that should be discussed by a GM and the players before hand.

For a Fate point the ally can act independently for a scene performing actions as a separate character. The following Allies and Droids were built using the Asset Creation System from the Jadepunk game.

Professional x2, Resilient, Sturdy, Independent, Demanding (1 Action)

APPROACHES: (+1 Teamwork bonus)

  • Fair (+2): Clever
  • Average (+1): Sneaky

STRESS: 0

An astromech droid, sometimes shortened to just an astromech and also referred to as an astro droid, was a type of droid that served as an automated mechanic, performing a variety of repair duties and often serving as an adjunct or substitute for a nav computer on smaller starships. Astromech droids could also use the mainframes of larger ships to their advantage. Many starfighters relied on astromech copilots. Astromechs are widely known for being independent and often act alone but they do require direction.

PROTOCOL DROID (-1 Refresh)

Professional, Resilient, Sturdy, Exceptional (Consuming, Demanding (1 action))

APPROACHES:

A protocol droid was a type of droid designed to assist sentients in their relations with one another and were programmed mostly for etiquette, and were often used as translators between sentients or between sentients and computers. Protocol droids were generally designed to look like the sentients they would be serving; for example 3PO-series protocol droids were designed to look Humanoid.
